Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security process that requires two or more verification factors when logging in to an app or website. Many online companies now use MFA to provide their users with an added layer of security beyond a regular username and password.
Additionally, MFA ensures that only you, with access to your device, can access your account. The use of multifactor authentication (MFA) allows uTest to improve security by protecting customer data and securing tester accounts.
When enabling MFA, you will need to install an app on your mobile device, such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. During configuration, you will link the app to your uTest account. Then when you are logging into your uTest account, you will need to enter a numerical code, called a "One-Time Password" (OTP), for example, "987654", from the linked app.
MFA On uTest Projects
To ensure the security and protection of customer data accessed by testers in projects, and to enhance tester account security all uTest members are required to have MFA enabled on their uTest accounts.
If you do not have MFA enabled on your tester account, you will not be eligible to participate in uTest projects that require testers to have MFA enabled. This means you will not be able to see cycle details or join the test cycle.
Additionally, some test cycles you have already accepted may start to require MFA to view details, continue testing, and respond to messages. So, until you enable MFA on your account, you will no longer be able to access those cycles and data.
The following will happen for projects that require testers to have MFA enabled:
Invitation to test cycles will be redacted and you will not be able to see the cycle details such as Test Cycle name, Company, Product, Scope, and Instructions.
You will not be able to accept the cycle invitation until you enable and configure the MFA.
Cycle emails and app push notifications will be redacted to hide the messages and the cycle, product, and company names, as well as other details.
You will lose access to past or current Test Cycles that add an MFA requirement to participate.
To be able to accept test cycles and claim slots on time, it is recommended that testers configure the MFA in advance. Also, it is still a good idea to enable MFA on your uTest account, even if you are not participating in cycles that require it. This ensures that you are the only person who can access your account and you won't miss out on testing opportunities.
Important Note:
By March 1, 2025, all testers will be required to enable MFA to participate in any test cycles. This means that without MFA, you will not be able to:
View details for all test cycles, even those you have already participated in
Accept invitations to new test cycles
So, we strongly advise all testers to set up MFA today to avoid missing out on testing opportunities.

Recommendations On Setting Up MFA Apps
Log in to the Authenticator app with your email address so the MFA will be linked to your account and you will be able to retrieve the MFA if you lose access to the device or reinstall the app
Export the MFA account to a different device if you want to switch or stop using the current device on which you have set the MFA, or in case you want to access the MFA from more than one device
How to Log In After Enabling MFA
Open the uTest platform or Mobile app
Provide your email and password
Click on the "Sign In" button
You will be prompted to enter the OTP
Open the Authenticator app and note the OTP code
Enter the OTP code on the uTest website without spaces
Note that one-time codes are time-sensitive and change (e.g., every 30 seconds). Try to enter the code quickly before it expires. For example, Google Authenticator shows a countdown image indicating how much longer the displayed code will work. If the code expires, look at the app again to get the latest code.
Important Notes on MFA
The MFA feature can only be enabled on the uTest website
Once MFA is enabled, update the uTest Mobile app to the latest version, otherwise, you won’t be able to log in on the uTest Mobile app
If you want to participate in any test cycle that requires MFA, you will need to enable MFA on your account in order to see test cycle invitation details, accept the cycle, and participate in testing. Enabling MFA in advance helps you avoid delays in participating
If a cycle you have accepted enables the MFA requirement and you do not have MFA enabled in your account, you will lose access to the cycle, issue reports, and test cases you have submitted until you enable the MFA on your account
If you or the support team disable/reset your MFA, you will instantly lose access to all your cycles' details and cycle chat that requires MFA. To regain access to the cycle, you will need to re-configure the MFA again

MFA Frequently Asked Questions
Question: What if I cannot sign into the uTest mobile app with MFA? Answer: Update to the latest version of the uTest app on your device. If you are still unable to log in, contact uTest Tester Support via the "Login Help" link.
Question: What if I lose access to the device I already linked to my uTest MFA? Answer:
If you have a new device, some of the authenticator apps will carry over your OTP configuration linked to your uTest account. After installing the authenticator app on your new device, if the "Applause" configuration appears in the list then you can continue to use its "one-time codes" for logging in.
If not, you can contact uTest Tester Support’s "Login Help". They will be able to assist in resetting your account so that you can reconfigure MFA on your new device when logging in. Please remember to include your uTest Tester ID.
Question: What if I want to set up uTest MFA on a different device or lost my configuration?
If you have MFA configured on a device, but want to set up MFA on a different device, first check if installing the same OTP app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator) on your new device automatically imports your existing uTest MFA configuration. If not, you can either use the "Reset MFA" button above or contact Tester Support to reset MFA on your behalf. After the reset but before setting up MFA again, it is suggested to remove the uTest MFA configuration from your OTP app to avoid confusion due to similar configuration names. Next, you will need to configure MFA on your new device the next time you log in.
If you lost access to your MFA device, you can contact uTest Tester Support’s Login Help (https://support.utest.com). Please remember to include your uTest Tester ID. Additional validation of your identity may be required.
Open the uTest website and log in to your account
Click on the down arrow next to your tester name at the top left corner
Click on the "Account Security" tab
Click on the "Reset MFA" button
Confirm your selection by clicking on the "Reset" button in the pop-up
Now configure the new MFA on your new device
We also recommend that you remove the previous configuration from the OTP / MFA app
